Weather

The weather is a big part of our lives. It may sound superficial, but one of the big reasons why we live where we do is because of the weather and the climate. Firstly, it snows here and we can ski at several superb ski resorts not more than 30 minutes from our door. Secondly, there are 300+ blue sky days here and so when were not skiing we can enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that we love hiking, biking, kayaking or just being outside for most of the spring, summer and autumn. Last of all ther is practically no humidity here - stuff doesn't rust!

While there's a lot about our home country (England) that we miss, we don't miss the weather. We found this poem about British weather and thought it superb:

    January brings the snow
Makes your feet and fingers glow
    February's ice and sleet
Freeze the toes right off your feet
    Welcome March with wintry wind
Would thou wer't not so unkind
April brings the sweet spring showers
On and on for hours and hours
    Farmers fear unkindly May
Frost by night and hail by day
June just rains and never stops
Thirty days and spoils the crops
In July the sun is hot
Is it shining? No, it' not
August cold, and dank, and wet
Brings more rain than any yet
    Bleak September's mist and mud
Is enough to chill the blood
    Then October adds a gale
Wind and slush and rain and hail
    Dark November brings the fog
Should not do it to a dog
    Freezing wet December then:
    Bloody January again!

Anyway, enough of slagging off the homeland. In 2005 we put up a weather station. It's a Rainwise MKIII RTI model and is hooked up to Weather Underground. At Weather Underground we're KCATRUCK9 and you can see our current weather details and history using this link. We also have our web cam set up to send an image to Weather Underground every 15 minutes and they are composited into a time lapse movie for each day of the year.

If you are interested in reading our recommendations and comments about our weaher station then this link is for you.

We hope that you enjoy our weather (we do!)
