Timber…
August 29, 2007
Sadly a very large tree in our front yard died this summer. It was probably bark beetle that got it and due to the fact that it’s been so dry the trees are particularly vulnerable at the moment. It’s always fascinating to watch someone shin up a 120’ tree, with a chainsaw hanging from his belt, lopping limbs off the tree as he goes up. Once all the limbs were down, the tree was then cut in sections and thrown down to the ground, until a small enough trunk remained to be taken down in one go without taking out our power lines. We were left with lots of large rounds in our front yard which friends kindly removed to keep themselves warm with this winter. Roman took the time to count the rings and the tree was about 150 years old.
