Lunar Eclipse

February 20, 2008

This was the last full eclipse before 2010, so I really wanted to see it. It had been a cloudy day and I hoped the clouds would clear, but when I looked out at 6:15 (the eclipse was predicted to start at 7 o'clock) the overcast made me write it off. We got a call at 7:15 from a friend who was watching it from Beatty in Nevada. I woefully looked out of the window and saw stars twinkling - the skies had cleared! I was kicking myself as I set up the camera. I got most of the eclipse and from the time-lapse movie below you can see that not long after it finished the clouds began to roll back in. It just goes to show that it's not over until it's really over!

Creating this movie reminded me that I hadn't put any images up of an eclipse I watched on August 28th last year, so here are some photos and a time lapse movie of that event.

At the time I also took a decent shot of the Seven Sisters constellation that I quite like.
